Marla Bay
Marla Bay, located on the Nevada side, is a little bit further away from the ski area, but still provides access to the magnificent beauty of hike and bike trails within national forest service land.
Some of the homes here date back to the early '30s and feature a private homeowner's beach, pier and boat launch. Residents adore the wonderful lake access from these homes, set amidst the gorgeous tall pines of the area.
You'll find narrow streets and quaint, little cottages, which makes this a "Carmel-like" neighborhood.
There are three schools that serve the Marla Bay neighborhood: George Whittell High School, Kingsbury Middle School and Zephyr Cove Elementary. Combined, the three schools have an estimated 600 students and 70 teachers. In August of 2008, Whittell will consolidate with Kingsbury Middle School to become a campus for grades 7 through 12.
In 2005, Whittell was designated as "exemplary", one of only five Nevada schools to earn this honor.
