ElkPoint
Located right off Highway 50, about three miles from Stateline, the Elk Point neighborhood is just down the street from Roundhill. In fact, Elk Point Drive, from which this neighborhood gets its name, changes names and turns into Elks Point Road on the other side of the highway.
Elk Point is located adjacent to the clear blue waters of Nevada Beach. It offers its own private marina, boat docks and buoys, as well as a private homeowners beach to enjoy summer's endless activities. The neighborhood also has on-site security, common for a gated community. Some of the homes here date back to the early '50s, and offer charm and elegance in addition to modern-day upgrades and spectacular views of the waterfront.
Walking up Elk Point, toward Highway 50, residents can enjoy the benefits of a small shopping center which inclues the Zephyr Cove Post Office, a Safeway, and various restaurants and local businesses, including a state of the art surgery center, and a veterinarian.
Heavenly ski resort is just a couple of miles away, and those opting for an a day on the slopes can choose between parking at the top of Kingsbury Grade on the Nevada side, or driving to Heavenly village, right across from the casinos at Stateline, for a quick ride up the mountain in the gondola.
There are three schools that serve this neighborhood: George Whittell High School, Kingsbury Middle School and Zephyr Cove Elementary. Combined, the three schools have an estimated 600 students and 70 teachers. In August of 2008, Whittell will consolidate with Kingsbury Middle School to become a campus for grades 7 through 12.
In 2005, Whittell was designated as "exemplary", one of only five Nevada schools to earn this honor.
